My first post...I'm so nervous :-)

First and foremost, this blog is inspired by my daughter, who not only is an accomplished blogger but also a uniquely awesome person.  I take full credit for her many positive attributes and blame the few negative ones on her mother :-)  Not only does she have a blog, she actually allows me to read it...which I find pretty amazing...however, we are going to have a long discussion about her language!!!  I highly (and proudly) recommend you check out her blog Jumble Mash.

As I said, my blog is inspired by my daughter...my life is inspired by all three of my daughters!  I sincerely believe they are the only legacy I will leave in this world.  I can screw up most things in life and recover but I absolutely can not screw up being Dad.  I won't pretend that I get it right even most of the time but I can honestly say that I sincerely try to do the best I can.  I have found being Dad to be a rewarding, frustrating, frightening, hilarious, heart-breaking, confusing, educational, self-doubting, and altogether meaningful experience...thanks girls.

Enough of the mushy stuff...now on to the unsound reasoning.  The other day I walked pass a display case at work announcing Native American month.  I started to think of what "label" applies to me.  I was born, as were eight generations of my family, in America...why am I not considered a Native American?  While over two hundred years ago an ancestor made the trip here from Scotland, I don't feel Scottish-American...I've never been to Scotland so why would I claim to be Scottish?  Maybe we need a new label for people like me...maybe "Non-native American".

Hi...I come via your daughters blog.
Congrats on your first post and I hope to read more :)
Natives and non-natives...that can be a touchy subject and an interesting debate issue :)

I've come via your daughters blog too. Good Luck with your blog and I can't wait to read what crazy and wonderful things you come up with.

I'm not a parent and I'm not a native american so I can't comment on those topics.

Hi, new follower (obviously). On that same note, I think we are the only country that has "insert race here-American". I'm in Australia with my husband at the moment and saying I'm "American-Australian" sounds stupid as hell! Why can't we just be Americans, you know?

Welcome to the blog world and I sincerely hope you enjoy it.

I can't really comment on your post, I'm not a parent (yet) and I'm not american, but I don't think it's interesting how only in America do people label themselves as native something. Where I come from, we're really all from the same country, even though almost everyone is mixed with something else...

In my country they have a saying which roughly translates into: He who has children never dies :)
Here's to immortality

Welcome to the blogosphere! I was referred through your daughters blog and look forward to reading more of your posts.

It is indeed silly that there are so many labels here for people. Perhaps that is because the country is so large and is basically one big melting pot. Certainly makes for interesting discussion!

Wow....welcome everyone!!! I sincerely appreciate the warm welcome. Seems that we all pretty much agree that JM is awesome...there will be no living with her now :-)

@Miss Vicki, political correctness has done more to hame us than help us...in my humble opinion

@hed...I lived in South Australia for a couple of years, loved it but not vegamite :-)

@Bubbles and Uninspired...you can comment on anything, whether it applies to you or not...at least on my blog !

@lyndylou...according to the info I have, our family came from Wigtownshire about 1730ish but I've never had the pleasure of visiting

JM sent me as well, because I had to see if that "nut" fell far from the tree. It didn't! :) I look forward to reading more of your musings. I like to think of myself as just American! I am pretty much a mutt (like my beloved dog) so it would sound stupid to mention all of what I am.

If you hop over to my blog, please don't mind any language I may have that's like JM's. It's the blogging world that brings out the freedom of our tongues... er, fingers.
