Snowy Sunday

Yep boys and girls...it's friggin' snowing again!!!  Apparently I was very bad in a previous life and all this snow and cold is my punishment.  Is it too late to say I'm sorry???  If not, I'M SORRY...now bring on the sunshine.

It's been a very quiet weekend and fortunately it seems I've recovered from the creepy crud...yay me.  I didn't get to see Jumble Mash or LilSis this weekend but BigSis needed stamps so I drove the twenty miles to her work this morning to give her stamps...it seems I am the only one in the family that knows the well guarded secret of how to buy postage stamps :-)  It was worth the trip just to see her and it won't be long before she moves (mid-April) and I won't get to launch these rescue operations for her :-(

I'm having a hard time with this whole "empty nest, the girls no longer need me thing".  I keep telling myself that it's just another of life's many transitions and I'll adapt and move on...like there's a choice...but it just keeps gnawing at me.  I fully understand that in some way they will always need me and that they love me but it's just not the same.

I'm extremely proud of the women they have become and have complete faith in their ability to make it in the world...and that's what I want...at least the rational part of me wants that for them :-)

Last night I was wandering around the house at a complete loss of what to do with myself.  This is pretty unusual for me, I'm generally able to entertain myself with little difficulty.  I've tried to keep myself busy today but now it's almost 8 o'clock....my domestic chores are done...and I'm feeling kind of disconnected.

Wouldn't it be great if the intellectual side of us could smack down the emotional side and save us all this grief!

Hey, I know what u mean, but that feeling will go away.. My girls would use my house as their go between or hotel... doesn't sound nice but I like it.. a surprise visit... Don't worry, your daughter will be back, either calling or visiting.. Remember when u had your taste of being on your own?

I've got plenty of domestic chores for you to do. You could entertain yourself for weeks here. Get your mind out of the gutter.

Take it from somebody who no longer has a dad...they will always need you. It will just take them a bit of time to find a new balance and create a new relationship with you. And when they do, it'll be awesome. xx

They will always be your little girls.
They will offer you new challanges for several years.
Like marriages (can't wait to see how you handle that).
Grandchildren (you sound like a great father so you'll be an even greater grandfather)...

I know, getting ahead of the game, but... "Don't worry, be happy!" kt

Aww at least you get to meet them for shopping and a meal out as some don't even bother doing that :(.

You should have done a search on the internet for the cheapest bathrooms suites etc... just to keep you busy.

My dad is 75 this year and when my mum died 5 years ago, I felt like an orphan cos he went awol emotionally and physically.

I took it really bad cos I still needed him and that was a shock at the ripe old age of 40!

So your girls will always need you, no matter what even if it's only to deliver stamps :)

You need a holiday me thinks.

Lynne was right in that they will always need you but they will also go for periods of time doing their own thing and living life. Maybe a hobby would be the thing. Or maybe you could take Bruce's advice.

This weather is depressing, I'm sure you'll fell much better when the summer comes.
And your girls will always need you, you'll probably establish a bit different relationship but you'll always going to be their dad!

I heard a radio show over here in the UK about how they're encouraging experienced parents with time on their hands to consider fostering or adopting... Bit of an extreme solution but it would be one solution :)

Actually, it's not your fault, it's mine. after several days of nice weather I shaved off my beard (my winter coast according to THE BOSS) Saturday evening and we got Snow Sunday. it's a good thing I left my usual goatee or we;d be knee deep in white stuff by now!

If you're hoping to see nice sunny weather, come to California; which you can take the time to see and compare the people of Northern and Southern California. Hope all is better.

Does BigSis know that stamps can be ordered online? You can also get them at some grocery stores and also at Costco.

That darn weather. I actually postponed a party because ti was supposed to snow last weekend. Of course, it didn't.

Chief, it sounds like it's time for you to find another hobby. You've done an obviously fabulous job of raising your girls, now it's time to do things for you. Or maybe there's something you've always wanted to do. Well, now you can do it! In the meantime, you can always blog about your bathroom remodel. ;-)

Hope your empty nest feeling subside soon. Once you get more used to it I'm sure it will get easier. :)

The empty nest thing is obvious since you drove 20 miles to bring your daughter stamps! WTH, Chief?! I'm a daddy's girl, but I don't think dad would have ever done that for me. Unless I needed to mail a bill ... or something important... Okay, maybe he would have. But who even uses stamps anymore? :)

Glad you are feeling better, btw..

My mom has yet to have to deal with that, because as soon as I moved out my sister moved back in, and then I had babies, so she's never alone. Ever.

You should take up a few new hobbies.
