Who would you choose?

Happy Sunday friends and neighbors!  The sun is shining through the window and there is no snow on the ground...the thermometer says it's a balmy 43F outside...but I haven't been out yet.  It seems like forever since we've had a day of sun...c'mon Spring, kick Winter's ass and put him to bed!

Are you ready for some thinking?  I have a question for you today.

I would like to know, if you were given the opportunity to sit down and chat for a couple hours with any two people that are no longer living...who would they be....and why?

As usual, my choices will probably seem a little weird to most people.  My father's line originated in Scotland.  They immigrated to America between 1736 and 1750 and settled in southern Pennsylvania.  I would like to talk with my grandfather (8 generations) Robert about his life and what it was like for them.  He wasn't famous or rich and didn't do anything noteworthy but he was in on the ground floor of the formation of this country.

He served as a private in the Revolutionary War and fought under George Washington at the Battle of Brandywine.  After the war, he received a land grant in what was then northern Virginia but which is now West Virginia.  The area he settled in is still one of the least populated areas of the state and was a true wilderness when he first moved there.  I'd just love to hear about what life was really like for them during that time.

My second choice would be Edgar Cayce.  If you've never heard of him, he is described as a "Twentieth Century Psychic and Medical Clairvoyant".  He had the ability to put himself into a trance and provide medical diagnosis and treatment.  He also did readings on a wide variety of topics from future predictions to Atlantis.  I've read several of his books and books about him over the years and find his life fascinating.  I wouldn't want a reading from him, I'd just like to chat with him about his life and how he viewed the world.  If you're interested, you can find out more about him at http://www.edgarcayce.org/are/edgarcayce.aspx .

I hope everyone has a great day and now I'm off to do some laundry...living the dream :-)

That was great, I'll think of a couple and post it on my blog. Have a great rest of the weekend.

I'd go for Churchill - just because of the sheer amount of stories he could probably tell about his life... and Audrey Hepburn agin for her interesting life, but also because she was a fox lol

JFK- imagine, not just politcally, the stories he could tell. staring down the russians in the heart of the cold war...and i hear he did marylin....

ben franklin- i bet he would be a fun guy to party with...and he had a rebellious side...

An interesting question Chief Dad. One that may require a post sized comment so my reply will be a new post. Way to make me get my brain moving this afternoon.

Wow what a great post, right off the top of my head I too would choose an ancestor who I share my name with who was the first in my paternal line born in America, his father was born in Scotland and came to America in the mid 1700's settling in SC by way of Virginia, the second would be my Great Grandmother who I spent a lot of years with but missed asking a lot of questions to things she tried to tell me concerning my maternal line.

One would be Grandma. I miss her and would like to tell her about my life and hear more about hers.

Two would be probably be anyone from the Salem Witch Trials. It completely fascinates me and I would love to sit down and ask questions.

Man that's a hard one. Probably Thomas Jefferson and George Carlin.

Just more proof that your daughter rocks! I would love to speak to a witch who was persecuted for daring to want religious freedom. In a dream, though because dead people are creepy.

@Odie...I look forward to it

@G...good choices...Churchill would be amazing

@Bruce...and both were reputed to be ladies men :-)

@ib...I do what I can :-)

@Teresa...those are very cool choices...I like the family tie in

@AuntBecBec...so becca is a rocker :-) Did you ever read "No one here gets out alive" ?

@Jax...I'll be waiting for it

@Doria...another rocker...and party animal!

@Jimmy...how cool would it be to talk to the "first" American in your family? Just the decision to make the journey would be a hell of a story.

@caterpillar...I understand completely

@JM...well I can say with total confidence that she would be as proud of you as I am...and take a certain amount of joy that I DID get a kid just like me ...as she always predicted :-)

That's it...we're going to Salem so you can get this witch thing out of your system!

@Justsayin'...lol...could you get any more diverse than those two???

@Mrs. Hyde...she rocks because she's my daughter :-) And you can go to Salem with us...and I'm with you on the dead people!

One would be my grandmother. She died when I was a child. I would like to have known her as an adult. I'm not sure about the other person Maybe Judy Garland or Queen Victoria.

If I could talk with 2 dead people I would either want to do both my grandfathers or someone else down in my lineage like my great aunt or great grandma on my mother's side. So many stories and I wish I could have known them while they were still alive.

I would go with Jesus, but since I plan on kickin' it with him for eternity, I'll go with two other people:

George Washington - think of the stories! War, creation of our government, presidency. What a conversation that would be! I'd also ask him what he thought about that awful wig.

Anne Boleyn - to get the REAL story of what happened with Henry, her brother and how that axe felt.
